Rustic Plaid Scribbles Card for 12 Days of Christmas-Funkie Junkie Style-Week 9

Hello friends and visitors! I have just finished my card for week 9 of Linda Coughlin's 12 Tags of Christmas-Funkie Junkie Style Week 9. If I can keep on track I might just get them all done by the deadline! This is a super fun challenge, and Linda's inspiration is enormous! Her challenge is sponsored by her shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are some awesome prizes and EVERYONE who participates and follows the rules gets a generous store discount when they shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique in January. For me, it's win-win; I get a good chunk of my cards done and I get to go shopping the first of the year!

You can see Linda's tag here. I was inspired by Linda's tri-fold tag that she made into a party invitation. I loved the mix of greens with a hint of shimmer, the repetitive pattern and her silver and red sentiment panel on the front. And that red and white baker's twine and those tiny pine cones stole my heart!

I knew I wanted to pair my new Scribble Woodlands buck with plaid, as you can't miss that pairing in any retail store this holiday season--everything is plaid with deer! I guess that old plaid jumper I had in grade school is back in vogue! I used Tim Holtz plaid texture fade, inked it with Mowed Lawn and spritzed with water. After embossing my tri-fold card, I dried the ink and blended over with Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo Distress inks. Lastly I spritzed with Perfect Pearl Heirloom Gold mist. For the inside, I blended with the same colors, and spritzed with Perfect Pearl Pewter mist. Hopefully you can see a bit of the shimmer below.

The baker's twine serves as a belly band to hold the card closed. I don't have the Tim Holtz pine cones, but I do have a small stash of the tiniest pine cones ever from Emerald Creek Supplies. I added the silver Art Sugar in the same manner as the antlers further down the post, but gave it a blast with my heat gun to bake the sparkle on.

I cut two Tim Holtz Labels Thinlits and colored one with Tarnished Brass and Ground Espresso Distress paints front and back and used a splatter brush and watered down Ground Espresso for some splashes.  I was going for a wood grain look. The other I painted with Brushed Pewter Distress paint, leaving it streaky as Linda did. I added some pine sprigs with Library Green Archival ink, edged in Ground Espresso Distress ink and heat embossed my sentiment.. Both the sentiment and pine sprigs are part of the Scribble Woodland set.

The buck sits front and center, water colored with Distress markers and a water pen. Inspired by my good blog buddie and ultra talented Anne Redfern of Redanne, I had to do SOMETHING with those antlers! I chose to use Prima's Art Sugar in Antique Silver mixed with Perfect Paper Adhesive brushed on to make him a little more festive. This pales in comparison to Anne's gorgeous deer! I hope nobody takes offense to my deer "trophy". He really needed some sort of backing, and after I made my sentiment panel, I thought I would use the same label as a wood panel to back Mr. Buck.

This card is going to my same friend who received a plaid tri-fold card from me last year. Her family is what I refer to as one of my Capon Family. She and her family have visited Capon Springs in West Virginia the same week we do every year for the past 15 years (both our families have visited at least once a year for over 25 years, but we didn't go the same time of year). We stay in adjoining rooms and share a very special week every year. Since there are grazing deer right outside our front door every evening at Capon, she and her family will appreciate the buck.

Most of the products I used on this card can be found at The Funkie Junkie Boutique...

I am sharing my card with...
-Addicted to Stamps Challenge #136 Die Cuts and/or Punches (with a stamp) I used the Sizzix Labels Thinlits die and a Tim Holtz Scribble Woodland stamp set.
-Fussy and Fancy Challenge #177-Different Folds or Shaped Cards I hope this is different enough for the challenge--it is very different for me. But feel free to delete from the gallery if you do not think it fitting to the theme.
-Your Next Stamp Sketch and Color Challenge #53 I used green, gold, grey (silver) and red.

Thank you so much for stopping by today and for all your lovely comments! They truly make my day!
Hugs and Blessings!

  2. I don't think he pales at all, he looks fabulous. You are so right about the plaid being on trend and your plaid is wonderful the way you have embossed and coloured it. The wood toned background is the perfect setting for him too. Your friend is going to love this, so much!! Hugs, Anne xx

  5. Wow what a lovely card and with such a lot of thought and effort to both your artwork and your blog post. I really enjoyed reading through your post and how you gave this piece such a lot of texture. Mr Buck is a stunning stamp and he looks right at home there on that wooden panel. Thank you so much for sharing this with us at Fashionable Stamping Challenges.

  10. What a handsome buck on a very handsome card. I don't think I have ever seen so many bucks on Christmas cards. When we lived in the mountains, we had 5 bucks in our yard at one time.
